Writing instructions

These guidelines for writing are used in all the schools of VAMK, University of Applied Sciences.

General

In scientific writing, the language must be clear, precise, convincing and grammatically correct. Define the key concepts and always justify the claims made.

The text must progress consistently from one point to another, so that it is easy for the reader to follow the author's train of thought. You also build connections between things by investing in paragraph division, headings and language, and by using different means of connection in sentences.

Colloquial expressions are not used, but the language is matter-of-fact. Use specific expressions, for example "30% of projects exceed the target schedule", avoiding vague expressions such as "a significant part of the projects exceed the target schedule".

Instructions and recommendations

Remember responsible conduct of research.

Use the template

Use a template with a pre-defined layout and styles. If you use other files, please note the layout requirements in these instructions.

The more familiar you are with this template, accessibility and other features of the word processing program you use before starting the thesis, the better you will be able to focus on the writing itself.
